Ending room charge fraud: Introducing In-App Confirmations

New Feature

There's a moment that happens in almost every hotel, every single day. A guest walks up to the bar, orders a drink, and says a room number. No ID, no actual checks. The bartender writes it down, the guest walks off, and the charge lands on someone's bill. Often the wrong someone.

Anyone who travels regularly has run into some version of this. Most hotel staff have processed one without a second thought, because the system was built that way. A paper slip and an honor code standing in for actual verification.

We built secure In-App Confirmations to close that gap, and it matters for both travelers and businesses.

For travelers: Your stay, actually in your control

If you travel a fair amount, you already know the drill. You get to checkout and there's a line item you don't recognize. Maybe it's a drink you didn't order. Maybe it's a spa treatment charged to your room by someone who guessed, or overheard, your room number. Now you're standing at the front desk trying to prove a negative, which is never a fun way to end a trip.

And it's not only about charges. Hotels can request access to information stored in your Conit Cloud profile, and until now that kind of request didn't always come with a clear, active heads-up.

With In-App Confirmations, none of that happens quietly anymore. Any charge, any data-sharing request, any loyalty program enrollment tied to your stay triggers a real-time request in the Conit Cloud app. You get a notification, you see exactly what's being asked, and you approve or decline with one tap. If you don't confirm it, it doesn't happen.

That's really the whole idea. Instead of finding out at checkout, you're in the loop from the moment someone tries to bill you.

For hospitality businesses: Fewer disputes, more trust

If you run a hospitality business, the honor-system approach to room charges isn't just a guest experience problem. It's an operational one too. Every disputed charge is a conversation your front desk has to have, a refund your finance team has to process, and a bit of friction with a guest who was, until that point, having a good stay.

In-App Confirmations moves that verification upstream. Instead of your staff taking someone's word for a room number, the charge request goes straight to the guest's phone and gets approved or declined before it's finalized. That means fewer disputed charges, less time spent untangling who charged what after checkout, and a cleaner record if anything ever needs to be reviewed.

It also builds something harder to measure but just as valuable: trust. Guests who know their stay is protected, that nothing gets charged, shared, or signed up for without their say, are guests who feel taken care of. That's a real differentiator in an industry where a lot of guest anxiety comes from exactly this kind of ambiguity.

This feature is live across our partner hotels and businesses. Wherever a guest is checked in through Conit Cloud, they're covered, and so are you.

How it works

The flow is simple on purpose, for guests and staff alike.

  1. A request is triggered: A charge, a data-sharing request, or a loyalty program invitation tied to a guest's stay.
  2. The guest gets an instant notification on their phone through the Conit Cloud app.
  3. The guest reviews and approves or declines, with one tap.

The bigger picture

At its core, this is about replacing an outdated honor system with something both sides can actually rely on. Guests get real control over what happens to their money, their data, and their inbox during a stay. Businesses get fewer disputes and a guest experience that feels modern and trustworthy instead of exposed.
